Lunch at Sizzler

Amidst of the news that Sizzler has been making losses, I have mixed feelings. The most recent reviews I heard though were that the customer service has plunged, and the food was not worth it for the price. This might explained part of the lost in customers.

So I have lunch (salad bar) recently and it was not that bad. Their biggest let down for me was their re-fillling system, which leave much to be desired. This also applies to their breakfast menu- last time I had to fish for the two miserable mushrooms left.
For lunch though, I really enjoyed their variety of salads. I am personally not a salad-person. In fact, I have not really tried eating salads- referring to the ones mixed with sauces and all- except for coleslaw and raw vegetable as sides. I surprisingly liked the couscous one. The tomato salsa was also a big hit for me, taste just like mum.

If you are a fan of salads, then it is definitely a good place to go.

Also, I have come across the recipe for their cheese toast which was part of their loss-making statement. The recipe is equal part of butter and cheese (parmesan), spread on white toast and then pan-fry- seems fairly easy.

Here are the photos:

Note: Missing the soup bowl and the ice-cream haha

Throwback lunch

Here are a few snaps of my lunches since last week.

'Homemade' pizza with bacon, mushroom, capsicum, black olives and sundried tomatoes. Note the inverted commas because I used store-bought crust.

Fish cakes, fish fillets and sweet potato chips, all baked in the oven.

Lebanese bread with tuna cooked in tomato sauce, pumpkin and avo. YUM.

I'll finish on a light note: Avo and tomato on toast.

Throwback lunch

Here are a few snaps of my quick and light (or rather no-so-light) lunches.

A lot of them are from previous night's leftover, and some are just made up of 'what's on hand'. The key is to have a balanced meal.

I recently 'read' a book about nutrition and there was a lot of focus on food absorption in the body and how what we put in our mouth (a combination of food items) releases different level of energy and glucose. It is essential to eat food that will release a steady rate of glucose in your body. Why? Glucose not used in the body to produce energy is stored in as fats (not so much for released of continued energy, which is why we feel hungry after a certain amount of time even if we ate a lot from a previous meal). Well this is definitely a very interesting and deep area. I am not really sure my brief summary is very clear or even true to the facts, but this is what I have mostly understood. Having had a slight insight of this food process has left me quite apprehensive about the notion of eating. The bottom line is that you need to maintain a balance. Always.

So here we go:
Fish with sweet potato chips, guacamole and quinoa for a Saturday lunch
Flaked salmon with avocado and grape tomatoes on toast
Smoked salmon and avocado on toast, with grape tomatoes
I made these chickpea patties following the recipe from Everyday Gourmet with Justine
(Recipe here) with a few alterations of my own. They turned out lovely and are really tasty.

I have the chickpea falafel with some couscous mixed with some diced tomatoes and cucumber and cottage cheese
Couscous with smoked salmon, avocado and cucumber

Fish cakes with potato salad, cucumber and carrots
Mashed avocado and tomato on toast with a sprinkle of chia seeds

Creamy mushroom fettuccine with salmon

This was for our Saturday lunch. Alright so for the fettuccine, nothing too difficult because I used the sauce jar; I only added some fresh button mushroom with it. This is a great dish. Also, we had some salad on the side: lettuce and carrot, idea of making it a whole meal. Simple and easy.

By the way, I know we are eating a lot of salmon lately- okay not so much- but still compared to before it is like a huge improvement, and this is simply because seafood is very healthy for you and salmon  is especially nutritious owing to its heavy content of omega 3. So do not be afraid of eating seafood (way of speaking); they are good for you.

Wanna make your own Subway® at home

Okay, so why spending how many $ on buying when you can have your own healthy version at home. Yesterday, for lunch we had bread (baguette) with turkey ham, cranberry sauce (did I mentioned that cranberry sauce goes so well with turkey yumm), cucumber, spinach leaves, grape tomatoes, and carrots. As desserts, we had white and red grapes. A healthy and nourishing lunch.
I didn't take any pictures because I was obviously too hungry aye. Until next time xx
