Salmon

I have really grown liking eating salmon and try having it at least once a week. It is definitely my favourite seafood- not only it tastes delicious but it is rich in good fats and omega-3.
My take at salmon is either pan-fried, or cooked in the oven or a mix of both, and served with a combination of side dishes.

Throwback in the kitchen

This week was quite a healthy one (if of course you do not count the domino pizza which we had on Friday eek). I have heard a lot on quinoa, about how it is super nutritious, rich in protein (and what else- just know it's a super food). Well I tried in for the first time last week, through sunrice- you know the ready-made rice packets (they are definitely handy). It tastes surprisingly good (just quite like normal rice actually). So, when I save up a lil (they are quite pricey for sure), I will buy the seeds and cook it . I have seen how it is cooked already and it takes only 15 minutes.

First picture: Steamed green beans and asparagus
Second picture: Quinoa rice with the green veggies and a bowl of my lentil soup.
Third picture: Quinoa rice with pan-fried salmon.

These are a few of the healhty dishes of this week.

Creamy mushroom fettuccine with salmon

This was for our Saturday lunch. Alright so for the fettuccine, nothing too difficult because I used the sauce jar; I only added some fresh button mushroom with it. This is a great dish. Also, we had some salad on the side: lettuce and carrot, idea of making it a whole meal. Simple and easy.

By the way, I know we are eating a lot of salmon lately- okay not so much- but still compared to before it is like a huge improvement, and this is simply because seafood is very healthy for you and salmon  is especially nutritious owing to its heavy content of omega 3. So do not be afraid of eating seafood (way of speaking); they are good for you.

Salmon again

We bought some frozen ones, unsure the result will come same as the 'fresh' ones. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Might as well buy those because they are way cheaper. Happy eating.

Pan-fried salmon

Salmon is my biggest new favourite food ever. Seriously, I was really suspicious and dubious about this seafood before, especially about eating it 'raw'. Anyway, I know I have been missing a lot. Salmon is said to the richest seafood in terms of fat, but hey good fatty acid. Plenty of omega 3 which is good to optimise your health. Anyway, that's what I have read, and I trust these sources hehe.  I realise that I do not essentially like smoked salmon though because they are too salty and to my opinion takes away a lil bit of the flavour.

Well, I wanted to try and cook fresh salmon since ages and finally the time has come. So I pan-fried my salmon. It was absolutely gorgeous. This is such an irresistible dish.

Fresh salmon - okay I'm pretty sure it is not that fresh fresh but still --

Just cooked, look at those crispy skins, simply like the way the skin turned so crispy
Garlic bread

As side dishes, we had sauteed mushrooms, green mix salad and some cherry tomatoes and garlic bread

Now the trick to get those crispy skin is this (this is the way I did it) . Season with pepper and salt on both sides of the salmon. Drizzle with olive oil. Put your pan on high heat with olive oil. Pan-fry skin side down first for about 4 minutes, pressing against the fish the first 10 seconds. Turn over and repeat with that side. That's it.
