Christmas Lunch

Happy Christmas. Like almost everyone else I believe, we had the traditional roast turkey for lunch, with cranberry sauce, mash potato, and coleslaw with garlic bread :) An easy dish I might add, just need some time. The good thing is that it is healthy, with raw veggie and delicious. I just had a crush on cranberry sauce- it goes so well with turkey- absolutely no comment. Here's a view at the dish we had:

On a side note, I know that my camera is not the best, but I'm absolutely thrilled and happy with my mobile cam hehe.

Fruits

Okay, have to tell I'm crazy over fruits. I really like to eat fruits because it's fruity, sweet, deli, rich of vitamins, nourishing, healthyyy..hmm okay I stop here or I'll go with the list of synonyms and like and this is not my goal lol.

Here are some pictures of fruits I like to eat.

Mangoes. I like mangoes even more now since I read that they are good for the skin + they are super juicy and smooth. Oranges, fruity, sweet, rich in vitamin C and good for hot weather, it acts like a soothing agent. Banana because it gives you lot of energy and is a fruit that contains natural sugar and all. Apple because they are super healthy- referring to the quote 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away'. Kiwi, just an amazing fruits, give you lot of vitamin C and is deli.
I enjoy to eat lot of other fruits like cherry -full of antioxidants, strawberries, nectarine, peaches, mandarin, avocado (it turns out that I absolutely crazy about it now + it's so healthy for skin and contains good fat), pear, grapes and many other I can't think of now. I know my brain sometimes won't work or I find it hard to concentrate, nothing to worry about coz I'm working on this.
Now why didn't I just say I like to eat all fruits- simply because I'm not super fan of some fruits, namely, rock melon- too sweet for me despite its goodness against cholesterol I believe, watermelon and durian haha believe be this is a no no *blush

Point of the day: Try to eat at least 2-3 fruits a day and you'll see the result. Definitely a must to keep healthy and fit.

Bubble Tea

Thing that was unknown to me before I came to Australia. Bubble Tea. I love drinking bubble tea, it's sweet and delicious. It comes in different flavours. My first was at Utopia- it's quite a famous bubble tea shop here, and  thought it tastes really good and super refreshing. Well I do prefer the milk ones though.
I know that it's not too healthy in the sense that it contains lot of sugar, but yeah from times to times it doesn't kill to have one (even though it's quite pricey- around $5). I recently learned that the bubble tea got its name from the bubbles, you know when you shake the liquid and it makes bubbles, there the derivative of the name, not because of the sago as I thought.
Anyway I'll try make some one day. It's like I feel like doing it but then thinking about the bother and all, I tell myself it's just way easier to buy one and satisfy your craving. Sometimes it's just quicker and easier to buy indeed.

So a milk bubble tea looks like this. This one is from Chatime, which recently opened in Perth. It seems to have grown famous in the Asian countries. The flavour for this one is honeydew. I like the packaging by the way.

Breakkie

So how to start a morning fresh, healthy and full- I mean balanced and satisfying.
To begin with I drink a least one cup of warm to hot water to wake my body. It firstly contributes to your daily required consumption of water. Second, it helps to drain and make your body alive. I realise that it really helps to break from the slumber and especially during cold weather it helps in warming your body by having warm water through your body.
Next I will have a cup of milk with lots of cereal and I add some goji berries and sunflower kernels to it. Goji berry is my favourite berry because it has so many health benefits including being rich in antioxidants. Sunflower kernel has omega 3 which is good in preventing cardiovascular risks. I tend to have Coles plain cereals and Uncle Toby Omega 3 cereals. Good combination- a definite recommendation. I also accompany them with 2 slices of wholemeal bread, spread with jam -Dalfour Yummy- and butter- Western Star. I just tried this and become a cottage cheese lover, point to add, it goes so well with blueberry jam.
Finally I will have a fruit, either banana, an orange or the like.
Well, a perfectly balance, satisfying, deliiii, filling and more importantly healthy breakfast. Gotta like this breakkie, that's why I can have this everyday.

A little note to this: I know some people can't have breakfast, maybe a lil advice would be not to eat too late at night so you have an empty stomach in the morning, ready to be filled with food. Anyway eating too late is not good, because your food can't be digested properly.
Remember breakfast is the most important meal of the day; I had opportunity to acknowledge this. How? I experience that after having a complete breakkie, you don't feel hungry at all during the day which prevent you from overeating the other meals of the day. If not, you will feel hungry all the time. A rich breakkie can help you sustain through hours. I once had a light breakky and felt ravishing all day which is not good for weight.
Anyway I can't start a good day without a full breakkie, else I would feel weak and I tell you it's not good in terms of productivity.

I just read and realise a most important reason to have breakfast. I'll go the other way round, if you missed this meal, there is serious reason to believe that you will not be able to consume the daily requirements of food nutriments. Well I hope this now give you serious reason to start having breakfast, never too late to change some habits into more healthy and rewarding one. Think the long run, you will be more productive and a more cheerful person, what is not better than having a satisfied tummy.
 Way to go....!

My start to cooking

Okay I know this sounds a boring topic to talk about but I feel the need to write something about how I begin to cook. Firstly because this was definitely not a natural thing for me. I really start cooking cooking at the age of 17 or so, when I started uni, or probably when mum was not at home to cook anymore. Well well well so it started really slowly. My first dish was I think some 'chop suey poulet'. At that time, it was a new thing for me. I guess I never cooked before because mum was always cooking for us, like all the time, and to be honest, I didn't feel like helping at all (bad me I know)-just didn't feel like it. So, I started to cook fried rice and the biggest success ever was my fried egg and 'bol renverse'. I remember feeling so proud you know. Anyway, so I really get started when I moved to Australia for my studies. So now, I feel like cooking at any time even though I'm still a little reticent about cooking new recipes or trying dishes from books/magazines/on the web. Nevertheless, I feel really great about cooking. It was a hard beginning with all the cutting and all, but like I say all the time now, with time and practice, you can achieve anything. True. It has really become a pleasant activity and have an awesome feeling preparing the ingredients, cutting and so on (ok I'm no fool I assure you). Hmm yeah so I guess this is how it began, and I'm really happy to cook. It gives you a great feeling and it's not that hard as I thought it would be. I guess you can't tell something is hard or not without trying anyway. So I proved myself wrong because once you start cooking you enjoy it, and isn't it great to be able to cook/make your own dish. First you get to eat it, second it's healthieeeerrrr and third you choose your ingredients.
On a final note, I should tell myself that more often, it's that it's never too late to learn. Learning is a life long process. So learn and keep learning- you are not a complete ignorant out there.

On a side note, I would add that I'm not keen on eating outside, because first it's not that healthy, sometimes too oily and no one knows how the dishes are prepared, the nutritional value are to be questioned, sometimes quite pricey (the fatty ones not that much but the better dishes) and it rarely has fresh veggies in them or if there is well dunno if it can even be eaten. (I know some of you will red arrow me! ). So I'll acknowledge that you cannot cook everything at home and sometimes you'll have to buy outside. There is time issue and many more. Sometimes you'll feel like a burger and I know that feeling that you just can't ignore :p However, home cooking is best, it's so much healthier and better option. Now this is another reason why you should learn to cook. Yes I know being healthy is not that easy but with patience and willingness you'll enjoy what you do.

Okay so let's get started

Welcome to my new blog which is going to be on food and my home made dishes. I decided to make this blog to mark my recent likeness to cooking and baking. Like the saying goes, never too late. Never too late to get interested in something.

So I'm going to post a lot about food and nutrition, healthy foods, habits to adhere to, and more importantly, I'm going to write a lot about the dishes and meals I tried and usually make at home.
Who doesn't like to eat? However eating is one thing and being healthy is another. We'll try to combine both in this blog.
Well, I hope this is going to be a success. I really hope. I'll try my best to make this happen by posting lot of interesting and creative stuff.
Until later.
K :)))

Happy blogging.
